For this exhibition about the public utilities in Roseville, California, The Exhibits Dept. spent a week touring utility sites and talking with city employees during facilitated meetings and smaller group meetings. The result is a design that reflects the diversity of people and utilities within the city. From the moment that visitors walk through an oversized water main into the center, they are immersed in the sounds and sights of the utilities.
How do we engage audiences?
The Exhibits Dept. created prototypes of several exhibits to test at the Utility Exploration Center. By hearing directly from the audience of the exhibit, we learned what about the design and messaging worked—and just as important, what did not.
